JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” has prohibited transit and freight traffic activity in Russian wagons.

“Ukrzaliznytsia” adopted in pursuance of the decree of President Petro Poroshenko on the enactment of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the continuation of sanctions imposed on the aggression of the Russian Federation.

“Ukrzaliznytsia” instituted a ban on freight traffic activity and transit through the territory of Ukraine in the wagons of the Russian railway operators, as the company’s press service has informed.

According to the direction of 18 May, the ban concerns all cargo and empty wagons of «Sberbank Leasing», «SG-trans», «NefteTransService», «JSC Freight One», «Federal Freight Company», «Promtransinvest», «First Freight Company in Ukraine», «RAIL1520», «Agrocomplex», «Aston foods and food ingredients».

In addition, Kirishsky, Almetyevsky, Korobkovsky, Permsky, Oktyabrsky, Orenburgsky, Ochakovsky, Ryazansky, Samarsky, North Caucasian, Surgutsky, Tobolsky, and Ukhta branches of «SG-trans» OJSC were banned also.

The press service of “Ukrzaliznytsia” in a commentary to the Interfax-Ukraine agency explained that such a decision was taken in pursuance of the decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko of May 15 on the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the continuation of sanctions imposed on the aggression of the Russian Federation.

In the updated lists, restrictions are imposed on 468 juridical entities and on 1228 individual persons.

For the first time, Kiev has imposed sanctions against 105 companies and 388 citizens engaged in Russian aggression, in 2015 – a year after reciprocal actions were applied by the US and the EU. On October 17, 2016, the President of Ukraine extended the previous sanctions (41 individual persons and one company were excluded from the list) and confirmed additional sanctions against 335 individual persons and 167 juridical entities.

According to the “Law on Sanctions” the decision on their application is taken by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and enacted by the President by decree.

In relation to Russia, economic sanctions were used by the United States, the European Union and some other countries in the spring of 2014, after Russia annexed Crimea and initiated military aggression in the east of Ukraine. Sanctions have been expanded several times and become tougher.
